Design through the retail eye

Finished Family Room  Our family room renovation has been a slow process since we moved into our house 3 years ago.  I am sharing my embarrassing photo of what our family room looked like before our Reno. The walls had a stucco like finish on them and some of our furniture were hand me downs. Before moving into our home we lived in a one bedroom condo, so we were very happy with any furniture we could get our hands on.  The first part of our Reno was getting new floors put down through out the house. There were old white square tiles in the house before we had wide plank tiles put down . Before we demolished the walls in this room we covered up our beautiful new floors.  We found wood paneling behind some of the walls and plaster board behind others. The stucco like texture was due to the chicken wire that was also on the wall. Through the demo we were careful to remove the crown molding so we could put them back...

Rattan Patio Chair Makeover I went to my favorite thrift store Faith Farm last week and found this Rattan patio set for $30.00. The horrible red spray paint job didn't stop me from seeing the potential this set would have in a new color. I was drawn to this set not only for my love of Rattan furniture but to save this set from bad taste.  Here is a list of the supplies I used: I went to Walmart and purchased 8 cans of Rust-Oleum painters touch paint.  The paint cans were $3.86 each. This spray paint is an oil based paint.  - I went to Home Depot and bought Rust-Oleum protective enamel in gloss white. This is an oil based paint that you will need if you are using oil based spray paints as the base paint. Latex paint will not stick to oil base paint. - I also bought sand paper to sand in between coats of paint. I picked up 220 fine Grit.  - I used a cheap paint brush for painting on the oil based paint ....

I took a little break from blogging while I was pregnant with my son Leo, but now I'm back and showing off Leo's Nursery! The last room in our house that needed to be decorated was my husbands office. I knew that I wanted the babies room to have a neutral wall color with bold colors as the accents in the room. If it was going to be a boy or a girl I was sticking with the color scheme:)  Of course a room in my house wouldn't be complete without a hutch. I went to my favorite thrift store Faith Farm and saw this hutch for $20. A little spray paint and new glass shelves and it made a perfect addition to Leo's room. I found this large storage tote at Home Goods, the Lion was the hook for me. Leo the Lion!!
